A double-stack diesel-electric reefer, a car-, a bulk-, a garment- a open top and a 4-doors container: as from now they are all available as a 45ft pallet wide high cube. This is all being possible thanks to Unit45 who has introduced these 6 types of containers in the last 3 months. They also presented their improved version of the curtainside unit at the Intermodal exhibition held in Hamburg on 5-6-7 December.
“Unit45 is one out of eight container suppliers in Europe,” tells Jan Koolen, managing director of the company, “But we are the only one specialized in 45ft palletwide high cube containers. The prototypes are being developed in the Netherlands; the production takes place in China.” Launching a new container means a good cooperation process between the client and the supplier.
The interesting part of the double-stack diesel-electric reefer container is that it accommodates 66 europallets and that the unit without being connected to electricity, can freeze till -25°C for app. 5 days in a row. This makes the reefer unit ideal for inland transportation via rail and inland waterways, where there is no electricity available. On the sea-going vessel the units can be plugged in and they function on electricity.
Double-stack means that two pallets can be loaded on top of each other, but have their own loading ramp. This is perfect for shipment that cannot be stacked very high.
Koolen thinks that all types units are very special, but if he has to name one, then it has to be the car container. This unit can carry 5 passenger cars, depending on the sizes of the cars.
The most special thing about the 45ft pallet wide high cube bulk container is, that it has a loading capacity of 40 ton. Normally this weight cannot be transported in one container by road. But most of the users have their own railways so they don’t have to take this rule in account. A bulk container contains a liner bag. This large bag is maximally filled through 7 roof hedges on the roof the container. This unit is also very suitable for light shipment because it’s content of 89m3.
The garment container has a special construction on the inside of the container, so the clothing can be transported hanging. The open top unit offers more space on the inside. Especially for light shipment this type is very interesting, because it fits more cargo; for example turf or steel scraps. This shipment is remitted from above. This container is also interesting for oversized cargo.
Unit45 had developed a 4-doors unit for a German company. This unit has doors on the front as well as on the back. This type of unit is for example being used for the transportation of carpets. “We want to come up with new types ourselves more often, but we simply do not have the time to do that. Nevertheless we are very proud of our new types,” adds Koolen. “At this moment we are the only supplier of some of these 45ft units.”
First class-solution. That is the 45ft pallet wide high cube bulk container, according to Piet Vink of Polar Express from Nijmegen. They are the first user of this type unit, which they developed together with Unit45. The container is being used for their clients in Scandinavië. The unit is suitable for wrapped cargo (pallets) as well as bulk. After extensive testing, various clients think this 89m3 unit is a true novelty. The unit is suitable for transportation as well as temporally storage (
